Montana Florist Association (MFA): Cultivating Community, Education, and Growth in the Floral Industry
The Montana Florist Association (MFA) was established to foster collaboration, goodwill, and mutual support among florists, store owners, wholesalers, vendors, growers, event planners, and educators across Montana and surrounding states. MFA promotes the advancement of the floral industry by encouraging cooperation and offering valuable opportunities to connect, learn, and grow professionally.
In today’s dynamic market, staying ahead requires continuous education and strong connections. Through MFA, members have access to vital networking opportunities, allowing them to build relationships, exchange ideas, and collaborate with others across the industry. These connections are essential for growth, helping members discover new business opportunities and develop partnerships that enhance profitability and success.
MFA’s commitment to education ensures that members stay updated with the latest trends, techniques, and best practices. By attending workshops and events, florists and industry professionals gain hands-on experience with modern floral design, learn how to integrate innovative business strategies, and discover ways to navigate challenges in a competitive market. This emphasis on learning helps members refine their skills, elevate the customer experience, and maintain thriving businesses.
MFA is governed by a volunteer Board consisting of five members, along with a Secretary and a Treasurer. Board members contribute their time and expertise to guide the association’s vision and activities. In accordance with MFA's by-laws, the Board conducts meetings via phone conferences throughout the year and gathers in person during the Annual Convention.
The highlight of the year is MFA’s Annual Convention, where attendees experience some of the best educational and networking opportunities available. This multi-day event features world-class floral designers, business experts, and engaging workshops, all designed to inspire attendees and share the latest trends shaping the floral industry.
Whether you’re an experienced professional or new to the industry, the MFA convention provides something for everyone—opportunities to hone design techniques, enhance business acumen, and establish meaningful connections with peers and vendors. The event fosters collaboration and sparks new ideas, ensuring members leave with fresh inspiration and practical tools to apply in their businesses.
Joining the Montana Florist Association means becoming part of a supportive community committed to personal and professional development. With networking, education, and camaraderie at its core, MFA is dedicated to helping members succeed and flourish in an ever-evolving industry.
Over 85 years ago, the first Montana Florists Association was held, here in Great Falls, MT. In 1936, my grandfather, Herman Feiden served as President, followed by my father, Ted Byers in 1962. My mother, Connie Feiden-Byers, presided when the Association was 40 years old in 1970, again in Great Falls. I helped bring MFA into the 21st century as President in 2000. As my mother wrote, “This must be what is called tradition!”
Just as founding florists 85 years ago had faith and pride in our industry, so must we continue in their footsteps striving to make our industry ever better. While our numbers are small and most of us no longer grown our own plants and cut flowers, we still share our enthusiasm for educational and networking opportunities provided at our Conventions.
